How Did Jesus Prevent Women From Falling In Love With Him: A Follow-Up

Funny. There is this thing called the Bible. You know, the Word of God. If I read, it might have answers in it like:

Isaiah 53:2 (NKJV) For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

I swear, I am so tempted to get Isaiah 53 tattooed on my back in Hebrew, Greek and English.

Love that Joe…amazing. When I read “there is no beauty that we should desire Him” my first thought was that people looked at Him as being in the natural world and there was no physical beauty that would make Him appear desirous by women. That lends me to think that they viewed Him in the natural because He did come in the form of man but His presence, His essence and His heart was where His true beauty was and that was without a doubt, supernatural.

In my opinion isn’t that what we should all strive for. Not to be desired for things of the natural world…things that can be seen. But to be found beautiful for things that are not seen. To be loved for what truly matters. Not for reasons of the flesh but with motivation of the spirit and the heart and to see the heart of each other and those around us. When my daughters are older and are in relationships, I want to know that the person they are with sees their heart and sees their real beauty. I’m sure God wouldn’t want any less for us…His children.

Once again Jesus’ walk during His earthly ministries should be our only basis for comparison for our time on Earth. He set a precedent for relationships that we should all strive for…to love each other unconditionally and for reasons that are not necessarily seen.

    many blessings to you Joe

    Wonderfully said, Shelley.

Like the song said, “open my eyes to the things unseen / show me how to love like you loved me / break my heart for what breaks yours”

Shelley…right on! It also made me think that in our humanness we look at things so superficially…then make our assessment by that alone. I don’t take time often enough to look for the beauty beneath…the yet uncovered wonder and grandeur that await their unveiling.

You know the old “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” blah, blah, blah. Its got to be true. I know beautiful women who look garish–freakish almost to me because of what their hearts portray. I know homely women who radiate because of what their hearts portray. And I know people who don’t care about another’s heart because they view people as a one use commodity.

BTW, I’ve never liked that Isaiah verse. ;) I guess I always wanted Jesus to be some sort of studly guy turning over tables and letting children talk to him and saving the world. Oh, that’s right. He was. I used to lead worship and plan services a few years ago. I remember having discussions with men about their being uneasy with some of the worship lyrics because they were very intimate and touchy feely. Talking about being in love with Jesus and such. I used to think “geez, get over yourself man!” I have a little more compassion now. From a man’s perspective, how do you encourage a newer male believer to be ok with that sort of intimacy?

I love that Isaiah verse because I have a face that only a mom could love and yet kids approach me all the time. There is hope for me for sure. All things aside, I feel blessed.

I want nothing more then to be intimate with my God. I love my Lord with my heart, soul and might. My intimacy with the Almighty God is between me and Him. But His love for me and my love for Him, there is no way I can contain that.

Follow up to the follow up:

When people fell in love with the heart of Jesus, they were falling in love with the heart of God.
